Young Talents of Classical Architecture and Urban Design Competition Announcement

Humanitas and the harmony of place.

In memory of Léon Krier

Accademia Vivarium novum Frascati

May 28-31, 2026

In the context of the upcoming international Conference Humanitas and the harmony of place. In memory of Léon Krier, taking place in Frascati on May 28-31, 2026, the Accademia Vivarium novum is opening an international competition for projects in the categories of classical architecture and urban design that have been prepared in the past 5 years by young professionals (under 45 years of age) and architectural practices in the early stages of their career.

The deadline is April 20th and winners will be announced at the Award ceremony taking place at the end of the conference, on May 31st, at Villa Falconieri (the event will be accessible through the Zoom link that will be published on the Academy’s website). The winners will also be invited to present their work in the conference planned by the Accademia Vivarium novum for May/June 2027.

The competition and the upcoming May 2026 conference aim at establishing the principles for regenerating cities and creating buildings that should at once be harmonious, truly commensurate to the human nature, sustainable, cost-effective, and “inheritable” by future generations.

Indeed, the Academy strongly believes that human beings should feel at ease in the edifices and spaces they inhabit and that architecture and any discourse on urbanism should respond to human requirements, and not vice-versa.

While expressing the urges of progress, new cultural modes and aesthetic trends, Modernism in architecture has often created uninhabitable spaces that clash with their surroundings and the basic social needs of human beings. In this sense the Accademia Vivarium novum advocates for cultural, urbanistic and architectural practices that place our natural disposition to harmony and beauty at the centre of their efforts, while pursuing a sustainable impact on the environment, and a continuation, rather than rupture, with the natural and cultural landscapes built up over the centuries.
